With spring break right around the corner, many people are looking to take a break and get away from the stress of everyday life. Some people go on vacation, visit family, exercise, or simply do nothing. However, there is a place that helps people relieve stress in a different way. It is a mailbox located on the beach of Wrightsville, North Carolina.

Inside the mailbox is a notebook or stack of paper in which people anonymously write down their thoughts and feelings to share with the world. Sometimes life gets too hard and people feel like they need to share their experiences with others. Some people that visit this mailbox are either hoping for an answer or can offer advice and support.

For pictures and examples of what has been written, check out this article  by Kristy Ondo from WECT News 6 titled “Wrightsville Beach mailbox holds secrets, unsent messages.”

It reminds me of a little prayer box. My mom always told me that if life gets too hard and you have too much on your plate, just write your thoughts down on paper and put it in a box. This technique reinforces how doing something as little as writing your thoughts down can help relieve stress. Sometimes, writing your problems on paper can help put things in perspective and make some of life’s difficult situations seem a little more manageable.

In a way, this mailbox can be seen as some people’s little prayer box. For others, it can be considered a private journal where they can write their thoughts and feelings without the fear of being discovered. Now whether or not they receive an answer is a different story. However, the underlying philosophy of the mailbox on the beach is sometimes something as simple as writing your thoughts down on paper can help you realize that the answer was in inside you all along.

Here is an newscast that tells the story of the mailbox. The story is by reporter Ashley White from News 14Carolina titled Mysterious mailbox on Wrightsville Beach filled with notes

I can honestly say that through my years I have never come across something so selfless, so soulful, heartfelt and just the most amazingly small gesture that has helped so many people around the world.  When I get down and depression or even having a wonderful dream come true, this is where I would be addicted to going to to write down my thoughts and feelings in the hopes that someone else would come along and maybe get something from what I had written that might help them find some perspective on their own life.  God bless these people keeping one persons dream alive.  After all, when all is said and done, all we have is each other.  We need to be closer to everyone, including those we may not know.  I will be making a pilgramage to find this mailbox and leave some of my story there for others to read.  Maybe this will catch on somewhere else and before long, maybe the world will be talking to each other, and not AT each other.  May GOD bless you with health, love, strength and the will to be a little more open to those around us.  Just remember, you could have been very nasty to someone not knowing who they were and there could be a letter in that mailbox that forgives you because they knew you were in a hurry and didn't mean anything malicious about the encounter.  Take the time to find the mailbox and leave a letter to someone that needs to hear important words from you.   Love Peace and Happiness to All

Paige you are so right. I have used the God box for years and it really works. Sometimes letting go is hard at first, for me it has been a blessing.

I think this is a wonderful idea. I always feel better when I write a letter or send a card or receive one. Especially during trying times. For a long time after my Dad passed I would write him a letter and then burn it in the fire. It was my way of sending the letter to him in heaven.

Ok now be serious, I love North Carolina but not at springbreak. Daytona is the place for me, it is hot and entertaining and if you want to blog your thoughts, you can bring your computer and sit on the beach, watch the action and blog away. Blogging is great but we already have plans for jet skiing, walking the beach in the morning, eating till our hearts content and best of all, visiting with all the other family members who will be there.
